WHAT TO EXPECT ON TRIP TO GHANA

Vital staff members will pick participants up at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, or wherever you may be coming from. After a day of rest, classes will begin and students will receive orientation concerning the program. Additional information will be provided about Ghana, its people and culture.

ACCOMMODATIONS, MEALS, TRANSPORTATION

Students may stay in a 5-bedroom house with modern amenities or a tourist class hotel. Students may be required to share rooms with the same sex and sleep on student beds. Other arrangements may be made for individuals interested in having their own room. This may cost two to three times as much as original accommodation price.

Participants will receive three meals per day. Transportation will be provided for students from residence to class location.

Please note: We are able to accommodate most special dietary requests. If you have food allergies or if you have dietary restrictions or are vegetarian, please let us know so we can accommodate you.

A TYPICAL DAY IN GHANA

On a typical day in Accra, students will wake up around 6:00 AM, which leaves time for a quick shower and breakfast before leaving for classes around 7:30 AM by taxi or bus. Breakfast will be cooked by Safari Chic Restaurant, and may include eggs, toast, with butter, jam or cheese spread, crackers, fresh fruit (pineapple, watermelon, apple, etc.), juice, tea and instant coffee. If you prefer brewed coffee, you should bring your own coffee and filters. You should also bring any herbal teas and or your favorite breakfast cereals if desired, as these are hard to find in Ghana.

Students first day at school will include meeting with an instructor who will provide orientation concerning Ghanaian culture, review program goals, and answer any questions. Classes are eight hours per day, Monday through Saturday, comprising of 24 hours of classroom lectures (three days) and additional 24 hours (three days) of computer and library studies.

Lunch is brought to class location by the Safari Chic Restaurant staff around 2:00 PM each day. Lunch is the big meal of the day in Ghana, and will include Ghanaian, Nigerian and continental dishes such as fufu and soup, eba, vegetable soup, rice and chicken, etc. All dishes are served with minerals or water.

The day usually ends at 6:00 PM and a driver is available to bring students to Safari Chic restaurant for dinner and transported to residence at 8:00 PM. Compulsory night classes are scheduled to review the daily lectures from 9:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Sundays are non-school days. Students may use this time to relax and prepare for Monday classes, go to church, or tour local tourist and historical sites. Students are responsible for all expenses incurred during leisure time activities.

Most European cellular phones will work in Ghana. Phone cards are widely available, and a 75,000 cedis [$9.00] phone card can last 20 minutes or longer when calling outside Ghana. If you prefer, Vital International will arrange for local cellular telephone rental at $20.00 per week upon your arrival.

PROGRAM CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY

Vital International Foundation reserves the right to cancel program in which a student is scheduled to participate before their departure for Ghana. In the event of such cancellation, amount paid by student will be refunded by Vital.

If for any reason student cancels the program, he/she must notify Vital in writing and follow up with email and phone call. The $50.00 deposit can be applied towards a future program scheduled within the next 6 months. After 6 months, participants will lose their entire deposit.

If a student cancels within 21 days of scheduled departure, 50% of the program fee will be charged. If they cancel within 14 days, 75% of the program fee will be charged. Students will not recover any funds if cancellation occurs 7 days prior to departure for Ghana.
